Cancún, Quintana Roo — IHG Hotels & Resorts will open a voco hotel overlooking the Nichupté Lagoon in October, adding 160 guest rooms to Cancún’s hotel zone.
Located at kilometer 5.5 of the hotel zone, the property previously operated as Real Inn. It will now operate under IHG’s premium voco brand. The hotel joins Cancún’s tourism offering at a time when the destination is working to maintain confidence among investors and industry players. Its opening is expected to generate 100 direct jobs.
Vianey Andrade, public relations director for voco Cancún, said the hotel will target a range of travel segments, with an offering geared toward corporate travelers as well as visitors seeking rest and family experiences. She described the property as fully family-friendly and said it is designed to attract international tourists and Mexico’s domestic market, which she called an important segment for sustaining hotel occupancy.
The voco brand already operates in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Puebla and Saltillo. IHG said the brand has future openings planned in Ciudad Juárez, San Luis Potosí, Torreón and Nuevo Laredo as part of its growth strategy in Mexico.
A floating dock measuring just over 11 meters is also planned at Pok Ta Pok in Cancún’s hotel zone to support boat excursions and tours through the Nichupté lagoon system.
