Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Hundreds of dead fish washed ashore Tuesday afternoon along a kilometer-long stretch of coastline near Crococun in this municipality.
The sargassum collection company Dakatso shared a video of the event and attributed the fish kill to the seaweed.
“Hundreds of dead fish among the sargassum remind us of the high cost of arriving too late. Prevention at sea is key to protecting marine life, our beaches, and the future of the Caribbean,” the company said in a social media post.
Authorities have not yet commented on the phenomenon or its possible causes.
