Cancún, Quintana Roo — Human remains were discovered once again in the Cuna Maya area of Cancún, marking the second such finding in less than a week. The body, which will require formal identification, may belong to an individual listed as missing in the region.

Details of the Discovery

According to reports, a lifeless body wrapped in a plastic bag was found in a green area near the Cecyte Plant III on Avenida 20 de Noviembre. Witnesses who discovered the remains in Cuna Maya noted signs of gunshot wounds and possible torture.

Authorities were alerted via emergency line 911, prompting an immediate response from Benito Juárez Municipal Police officers, who secured the scene. Agents from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) later arrived to begin investigative procedures, while forensic specialists from the Medical Examiner’s Office (Semefo) collected the remains for transport to the morgue. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and aid in identification.

Second Body Found in Less Than a Week

This incident follows another grim discovery on Friday, May 23, when residents of Cuna Maya reported finding black plastic bags emitting a foul odor. Police responding to the scene confirmed the bags contained human remains in an advanced state of decomposition. The FGE was summoned, and Semefo personnel later transported the remains for forensic analysis. Initial reports suggested the victim was male.

The proximity of the two discoveries—both in Cuna Maya within days—has raised questions about potential connections between the cases.

Context of Violence

The repeated findings underscore ongoing security challenges in Cancún. Earlier reports detailed a separate homicide in Supermanzana 107, where an armed commando attempted to abduct a victim before killing him.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the Cuna Maya cases are linked or part of a broader pattern of violence in the region. Investigations remain ongoing.
