Teotihuacan Hot Air Balloons

Teotihuacan, State of Mexico — A hot air balloon crashed into power lines during an emergency landing attempt near the Teotihuacan archaeological site on Tuesday morning, injuring two British tourists.

The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. when the pilot experienced difficulties while attempting to land in soccer fields on Cruz de la Misión de San Lorenzo Tlalmiminolpa street in Teotihuacan. Witnesses reported the pilot lost control of the balloon, causing it to strike electrical cables.

The two tourists suffered electrical burns from the high-voltage cables and received immediate medical attention before being transported to a private hospital in Mexico City.

The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) announced it has launched an investigation into the accident involving the balloon registered as XA-OZY, operated by the company Happy Puerto.

“The AFAC initiates an administrative investigation of the event in Teotihuacan,” the agency stated in an official communication.

Emergency personnel from the State of Mexico’s Civil Protection, paramedics, and state police responded to secure the area following the crash.
