Cancún, Mexico — A cashier at a private hospital in Cancún allegedly provided inside information that enabled a 2.5 million peso (approximately $2.5 million) robbery, leading to the arrest of three suspects, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar said the robbery at Hospital Galenia was a planned operation with internal assistance. Investigators arrested Belén del Carmen “N,” 36, a cashier at the hospital, who is suspected of providing key details to the robbers. Also detained were her husband, Rubén Darío “N,” 31, known as “El Chaco,” and his cousin, Ronnie de Jesús “N,” 28. All three are originally from Veracruz state.
Security camera analysis showed four individuals entered the hospital through the emergency area around 3:55 a.m., threatening private security guards. Two of them then went directly to the cashier area, where they broke a glass door with a sledgehammer to access the money.
The cashier was present at the scene and is now detained as a probable accomplice. The robbers took two cash boxes—one white and one blue—without opening them, which authorities say indicates they knew exactly where the money was stored. The entire robbery took less than two minutes, with the perpetrators fleeing on two motorcycles by 3:57 a.m.
López Salazar clarified that this was not an armed commando operation as initially reported, but a planned robbery with internal support. The investigation suggests the employee provided information about the hospital’s routines and surveillance camera locations to her husband and relative, allowing the heist to be executed quickly and without complications.
In a separate police operation, authorities located objects used in the robbery in a green area along the extension of Avenida La Luna. The three detained individuals have been handed over to a judge, who ordered them held in preventive detention while their legal status is determined.
