Xi’an, China — The Mexican artistic swimming team achieved a historic milestone by securing a bronze medal at the World Cup Super Final in Xi’an, China. This marks the first time a Mexican male artistic swimmer has stood on the podium alongside the national team.

Mexico’s Triumph in Acrobatic Routine

During the open acrobatic routine, the Mexican team—composed of Regina Alférez, Fernanda Arellano, Miranda Barrera, Itzamary González, Glenda Inzunza, Joana Jiménez, Pamela Toscano, and Diego Villalobos—scored 209.2038 points. China claimed gold, while Spain took silver in the competition.

This event served as the final preparatory contest ahead of the World Aquatics Championships, set to begin in July.

A First for Mexican Men in Artistic Swimming

The bronze medal marks a groundbreaking moment for Mexico, as Diego Villalobos became the first male artistic swimmer to share the podium with the national team. While this was their first medal-winning performance together, the team had previously competed in the acrobatic routine at the Markham World Cup in Canada, where they finished in fourth place.

The achievement underscores Mexico’s growing presence in international artistic swimming and sets a promising precedent ahead of the upcoming World Championships.
