Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Gunmen opened fire on a bar in Playa del Carmen early Sunday morning, injuring one person and sending customers and employees scrambling for safety.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m. at La Cantaleta bar in the Plaza Public Market on CTM Avenue, between Flor de Noche Buena and Lilis avenues. The gunfire shattered the nighttime atmosphere, creating panic among those present.
Emergency services and paramedics responded to reports of the shooting and confirmed one person sustained gunshot wounds. The victim received medical attention at the scene before being transported to a hospital.
Municipal Preventive Police officers arrived to secure the area, but the assailants had already fled before authorities could reach the location.
The scene remained under police guard as investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office collected evidence to begin a formal investigation.
