Grupo Bimbo Drops Artificial Colors by 2026

Mexico City — Grupo Bimbo, the global baking giant, has announced its commitment to remove artificial colorants from its entire product portfolio by the end of 2026. The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to prioritize natural ingredients and simpler recipes.

A Shift Toward Natural Ingredients

Rafael Pamias, CEO of Grupo Bimbo, stated, “Looking ahead, we are expanding our focus with an ambitious goal: by 2026, all our products will be free of artificial colorants. By 2030, we aim for 100% of our baked goods and snacks to be made with simple, natural recipes, ensuring they remain safe, nutritious, accessible, and available to families worldwide.”

The company emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step in its ongoing efforts to provide healthier food options. Currently, 99% of Grupo Bimbo’s daily consumer products—including bread, pastries, tortillas, bagels, and English muffins—are already free of artificial flavors and colorants. These categories account for approximately 50% of the company’s global net sales and over 70% of sales in the United States.

Health and Wellness Commitments

Pamias added that by the end of this year, 100% of the company’s bread, pastry, and breakfast product portfolio will offer positive nutrition, achieving a Health Star Rating of 3.5 or higher. The Health Star Rating is an international standard developed in Australia and New Zealand to evaluate the nutritional profile of packaged foods and beverages.

On the financial front, Grupo Bimbo’s stock on the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) rose 1.99% yesterday, closing at 56.50 pesos per share.

The company’s announcement underscores its long-term strategy to align with evolving consumer preferences for cleaner, more transparent food labeling.
