Quintana Roo’s Tourism Excellence Recognized

Cancún, MX — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa presented more than 3,000 certifications and registrations to the tourism sector, including 17 documents for the EC1084 Competency Standard for traditional cooks, recognizing the effort, discipline, and love for Quintana Roo of those who work daily with the sole goal of offering their best to build a tourism industry that transforms lives.

“Every certification, every distinction, and every accreditation we deliver carries behind it a story of commitment. There are entire families who wake up early, who train, who learn new ways to serve with excellence,” the Governor stated.

Mara Lezama added that “when we talk about the tourism industry, we are talking about thousands upon thousands of men and women who understand that quality is the best way to live their work with pride, but also with immense responsibility.”

She reported a 31.5 percent increase in certifications between July 2024 and September 2025. Quintana Roo now ranks first nationally in certified guides and first nationally in Hygienic Food and Beverage Handling distinctions.

The Governor of Quintana Roo asserted that they are on the right path in a different kind of government, but also that there is a long road ahead to continue making their crafts and culture visible, “because no one can know where they are going if they do not know where they come from, from knowing the work of our grandparents, knowing that there is a marvelous people here.”

Through the Ministry of Tourism (SEDETUR), the State Government delivered Recognitions for Tourism Quality Standards, Hotel Classification, and Accreditations for Tourist Guides, an act intended to distinguish the effort, commitment, and excellence of the tourism service providers of the Mexican Caribbean.

During the ceremony, led by Mara Lezama accompanied by the honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF System, Verónica Lezama, and the Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, 3,062 recognitions and registrations obtained between July 2024 and September 2025 were delivered, representing a 31.5 percent increase compared to the previous period.

The total includes: 1,258 certificates to 182 companies; 67 hotel classifications; 1,383 registrations in the National Tourism Registry (RNT); 325 tourist guide credentials; 12 National Codes of Conduct; and 17 certificates in the EC1084 Competency Standard for Traditional Cooks.

This delivery aims to recognize the organizations that guarantee continuous improvement, professionalization, and the implementation of good practices, contributing to offering safe, authentic, and memorable tourist experiences.

“Tourism is not just an economic activity: it is the engine that drives the development of Quintana Roo. Every recognition we deliver today is one more step towards a world-class destination, with opportunities for everyone,” mentioned Bernardo Cueto.

This is the third delivery made during the current administration, consolidating a historic process that began in 2022 and has allowed for the strengthening of trust, security, and the international image of Quintana Roo as one of the most competitive and admired destinations in the world.

During the event, Jordy López, manager of the Atelier hotel in Costa Mujeres, highlighted the work, support, passion, and service of his team that has made it possible to create experiences and values for the care of tourists and visitors.

For her part, the municipal president of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, affirmed that the municipality grows hand in hand with those who work with honesty, alongside Governor Mara Lezama to jointly generate shared prosperity.

Also present at the event were Hilaria Chuc, representatives of the second generation of traditional cooks; Ana Paty Peralta, municipal president of Benito Juárez; Blanca Merari Tziu, president of Puerto Morelos; and Deputy Euterpe Gutiérrez Valasis, president of the Tourism and International Affairs Commission of the State Congress.
