Cancún, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Benito Juárez Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña inaugurated the Cancún Half Marathon 2025, an event featuring more than 2,000 runners from 13 countries. The race was held as part of celebrations marking the 55th anniversary of Cancún’s founding.
A Celebration of Sports and Community
The starting signal was given at the Palacio Municipal esplanade, with Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF System, also in attendance. This marks the third consecutive year the event has been organized by Asdeporte, bringing together Cancún’s running community to commemorate the city’s anniversary.
Governor Lezama emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “We are celebrating 55 years of living history, and there is no better way to honor it than by recognizing the effort, discipline, and spirit that each of you represents. Every step you take and every finish line you cross today is part of this great celebration—one that reflects your dedication and love for sports.”
International Participation and Local Representation
Runners from 13 countries participated in the event, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, France, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico. Competitors raced in three distances: 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km.
Of the 2,000 participants, 862 were women and 1,138 were men. Quintana Roo was strongly represented, with 1,180 local athletes accounting for 59% of the total runners.
