Señor, Quintana Roo — More than a thousand children from the communities of Señor, Pino Suárez, and Tixcacal Guardia in Felipe Carrillo Puerto enjoyed the Festival of the Girl and the Boy, an event organized simultaneously in 100 rural communities by the DIF Quintana Roo, led by its honorary president Verónica Lezama Espinosa.

Promoting Joy and Children’s Rights

Verónica Lezama emphasized that the celebrations promote joy as a fundamental right for children. She stated that the DIF Quintana Roo is committed to fostering happy childhoods through play and community engagement. The festival included recreational and reflective activities designed to strengthen children’s rights while ensuring they have fun and bond with their families.

Governor’s Message to Children and Families

At the event held in the Señor town hall dome, Governor Mara Lezama encouraged children to enjoy the festivities and urged them to embrace happiness, avoid self-destructive behaviors, engage in physical activity, and maintain open communication with their parents.

Addressing mothers, Lezama called on them to pursue their aspirations, whether completing their education or accessing government social programs. “If you haven’t finished elementary school, this humanist government with a feminist heart will help you complete it—or secondary school, or high school—or enroll in any of our state social programs,” she said.

Festive Atmosphere and Community Participation

The celebration featured gifts, dancing, singing, and a special performance with characters from El Chavo del 8, organized by Reyna Arceo Rosado, head of the Secretariat for Anti-Corruption and Good Governance. Governor Lezama actively participated in raffles, contests, and dances with the children.

Mary Hernández, municipal president of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, noted that 16 communities in the municipality held simultaneous festivals, providing many children with their first opportunity to participate in such an event.

The participating communities included Kanpokolché, Chanká de Repente, Andrés Quintana Roo, Polinquin, Petcacab, Chunhuas, Filomeno Mata, Dzoyola, San Francisco Aké, Yaxley, Melchor Ocampo, San José Segundo, Santa Rosa, Santa Lucía, and Señor.

Also in attendance were the honorary president of the Municipal DIF, Mary Carmen Solís, and local council members.
