Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — With the inauguration of a new Well-being Unit in Rancho Viejo, the continental zone of the municipality of Isla Mujeres, the state’s Well-being Units Network has reached 12, consolidating itself as a key strategy to reduce inequalities in access to health services in Quintana Roo, stated Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
During a tour of the location, the head of the Executive emphasized that this action reflects the commitment of the humanist government with a feminist heart to leave no one behind and to attend first to those who need it most, particularly in communities that have faced historical deficiencies in health and well-being.
“Here the priority are people in vulnerable situations, those who do not have access to health services, people with disabilities, with chronic illnesses, and our elderly,” added Mara Lezama.
This Unit will offer medical and dental services, optometry, electrocardiogram, ultrasound, clinical studies, Pap smears, delivery of medications with 110 keys, and preventive actions, with the objective that families can care for their health in an integral, close, and dignified manner. In case a patient requires a special medication, it is obtained to deliver it to them.
Additionally, it has an Itinerant Mobile Mammography Unit, also with free services. The Unit began first-level care in December, with 3,178 registrations; in January, 4,739 services have been provided.
On Mondays and Fridays, it operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. “It is the people’s money that returns to the people through the Secretariat of Well-being,” quoted the Governor, highlighting that this Unit attends to more than 80 people per day.
Mara Lezama emphasized that the Well-being Units Network represents a historic investment throughout the state and reaffirmed that, for the current government, health is a right of the people and not a privilege. “We continue transforming Quintana Roo with social justice, bringing well-being, hope, and dignity to every community,” she expressed.
The head of the Executive was accompanied by neighbors Nereyda and Margarita; by municipal president Atenea Gómez Ricalde; by the Secretary of Well-being, Pablo Bustamante; by Dr. Luis Edgar López, director of the Isla Mujeres Well-being Unit, and Dr. Clara Sosa Puc, state medical coordinator of the Well-being Units Network in Quintana Roo, and Edgar Gasca, Undersecretary of Well-being.
