Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced the opening of a new Industrial and Services Technological High School Center (CBTIS) in Playa del Carmen, as part of a national strategy to expand upper secondary education coverage, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Following a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate General of Industrial Technological Education (DGETI), Rolando de Jesús López Saldaña; the Municipal President of Playa del Carmen, Estefanía Mercado; and the Secretary of Education, Elda Xix Euán, the Governor confirmed that the school will be designated CBTIS 309 and will be made possible through the donation of land by the Municipal Government.
Director López Saldaña emphasized that this new educational center will be part of the National High School system and will respond to the productive vocations and development hubs established in the Mexico Plan, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum. He also acknowledged the support of the Secretariat of Public Education, headed by Mario Delgado, whom he thanked for backing the project.
“The objective is to generate talent, provide real opportunities for our young people, and prepare them for the jobs of the future,” stated the federal official, while underlining the importance of offering careers aligned with new labor market demands.
For her part, Governor Mara Lezama highlighted that among the academic options being considered for the new CBTIS are innovative areas such as digital production, e-commerce, bionics, urbanism and sustainable development, business intelligence, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, software systems, robotics, aeronautics, international commerce, electromobility, and tourism management and innovation.
Mara Lezama stressed that the tourism sector will continue to be a key economic driver, citing estimates from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which projects the generation of 80 million jobs worldwide over the next 10 years, making technical training in this area strategic.
Finally, Mara Lezama invited the young people of Playa del Carmen to participate via social media to express which careers they would like to study, so that the educational offerings of CBTIS 309 respond directly to their interests and needs.
“It is a reality: CBTIS 309 will arrive in Playa del Carmen,” concluded the Governor.
Municipal President Estefanía Mercado stated that this is undoubtedly great news for the young people of Playa del Carmen.
