Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen continues to make steady progress in enhancing public services. Through the Public Lighting Directorate of the Municipal Public Services Secretariat, authorities report the rehabilitation of 4,852 streetlights and the activation of 1,414 automated lighting sectors, significantly improving safety and quality of life in various neighborhoods across the municipality.
As part of this comprehensive effort to ensure well-lit and secure streets, 13,638 meters of damaged electrical lines were also replaced, restoring power supply in areas such as the city center, Ejido, Federal Highway, and Arrecifes.
"The virtuous cycle this government promotes begins with guaranteeing that public spaces are functional and properly illuminated. This is how we build peace, security, and well-being for everyone," said Mayor Estefanía Mercado.
Between October 2024 and May 19, 2025, the following additional actions were carried out:
- 428 citizen reports regarding lighting failures were addressed, with response times under 72 hours.
- 330 technical support services were provided to other municipal and external agencies.
- 185 trees were pruned, 194 manhole covers were installed, 57 damaged poles were removed, and 47 poles were repaired.
- 25 measurement bases were replaced in different parts of the city.
Neighborhoods with the most interventions included Centro, Bellavista, Ejido, El Pedregal, Villas del Sol, Puerto Maya, and Puerto Aventuras, with a territorial focus and rapid response to citizen reports.
With these measures, the Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen reaffirms its commitment to a functional, safe, and dignified city, where public infrastructure is consistently maintained as part of a 24/7 public service policy for the benefit of its residents.
