Dámaris Ortega, a mayoral candidate for Puerto Aventuras, has accused incumbent mayor and fellow candidate Gilberto Gómez of using his position to intimidate supporters of other candidates. Ortega, representing the Planilla Café party, held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing electoral cycle. She expressed disappointment that locals were creating situations that could potentially disrupt the electoral process.

Ortega cited an incident on Tuesday night where Gómez's private secretary allegedly attempted to intimidate a leader supporting the Planilla Café party. She also mentioned city hall staff distributing leaflets and engaging in paid activism, claiming to have video evidence to support these allegations.

Ortega highlighted that the unfair practices were evident from the first day of the campaign. She accused Gómez of vote-buying and leaflet distribution. She also criticized Mayor Estefanía Mercado for attending Gómez's campaign kickoff and publicly embracing him. Ortega urged Mercado to refrain from interfering in the election, blaming her for the current disorder in Puerto Aventuras.

Carmen Cruz Trejo, a candidate for councilor, joined Ortega in accusing Martín de la Cruz, leader of the CROC, of meeting with unions to decide the future of Puerto Aventuras. They deemed this as an infringement on the rights of the local electorate.

Cruz Trejo lamented the current state of Puerto Aventuras, citing issues such as potholes, inadequate lighting, and poor garbage collection. She criticized the current mayor for prioritizing personal gain over the welfare of the community.

Ortega and Cruz Trejo urged Gómez to conduct a fair campaign and allow the residents of Puerto Aventuras to freely choose their next mayor. They reminded Gómez that regardless of the election outcome, they would all remain neighbors after December 15th. They implored Gómez to stop using his position to influence the election and let the people decide.
