The fourth annual "Restaurante Rivero's, Bahía de Calderitas 2024" Sport Fishing Tournament commenced this Sunday. A total of 26 vessels embarked on their quest for the "King of the Bay", the tarpon fish, following the starting signal.
After several hours of battling the elements and their fellow competitors, the weigh-in began at 4:00 pm and was scheduled to continue until 6:00 pm. An exhibition area was also set up to showcase other species like snook, cobia, barracuda, yellowtail, and sierra.
The awards ceremony will take place at Rivero's Restaurant in Bahía de Calderitas at 7:30 pm. Participants will gather in anticipation to find out who will be crowned the winner of this year's tournament. The event will feature live music, delicious food, and camaraderie. The first, second, and third place winners will be awarded prizes of 100,000, 60,000, and 40,000 pesos respectively.
Tournament organizer, Óscar Rivero Fernández, expressed his hope to continue this tradition with another tournament next year. He highlighted that the event not only generates significant economic revenue and boosts local tourism, but also creates job opportunities in the lead-up to and during the competition.
