Playa del Carmen and Cancún — Playa del Carmen and Cancún were the scene of an intense security operation over the weekend after state and federal authorities managed to dismantle four alleged drug sales points as part of actions against drug retailing in Quintana Roo.

Coordinated Actions That Yield Results

The deployment resulted in four people detained, in addition to the seizure of alleged illicit substances and a vehicle.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that the procedures were carried out after the execution of four search warrants authorized by control judges, in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense, National Guard, Secretariat of the Navy, and state and municipal police corporations.

These results reinforce security strategies in Playa del Carmen and Cancún, two of the main tourist destinations of the Mexican Caribbean.

Playa del Carmen and Cancún: Searches and Seizures

In Playa del Carmen, the first search was carried out in the Villas del Sol subdivision, where green and dry herb with characteristics similar to marijuana was seized.

In the vicinity, Roberto Carlos “N”, América Yamil “N”, and Margarito Enrique “N” were detained, who were found with alleged narcotics.

A second operation on Paseos del Mayab Avenue resulted in the detention of Johann Antonio “N”, who was caught handling alleged drugs in the trunk of a vehicle.

In Cancún, the searches were conducted in superblocks 75 and 25, where authorities located more alleged drugs in two properties, which were seized.

Finally, the detainees and the evidence were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status.
