Four Quintana Roo Communities Cut Off by Rainwater Runoff

Heavy rainfall from the remnants of storm "Nadine" has resulted in the isolation of four communities in southern Quintana Roo. The deluge has disrupted the junction that connects Tres Garantías and its neighboring communities to the federal highway. This has been largely due to the overflow of La Laguna "Barranco" and other Guatemalan lagoons, which have caused significant rainwater runoff.

This runoff, which intensified last Sunday, also led to the closure of the road to Morocoy. Although efforts were made to repair this route last night, the situation worsened, leading to the road being cut off once again.

The communities affected include Tomás Garrido Canabal, Nuevo Veracruz, Santa Rosa, and Tres Garantías. Luis Castillo Aguilar, a representative from Tres Garantías, has raised concerns about the situation and called for intervention from the authorities.

The most damaged section of the road is located between San José de la Montaña and Tres Garantías. This disruption has made it difficult for residents to travel, as they now have to take a detour that increases their journey time by at least four times. As of this morning, no authority has visited the site to assess the damage.

In addition to the disruption of transportation, the floods have also caused significant damage to agricultural fields. Local farmers are now struggling to save their animals from the rising waters.
