CJNG Members Face Charges in Cozumel Drug Case

Four alleged CJNG members in Cozumel facing charges for drug trafficking and weapons possession

Cozumel, QR. Four alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Cozumel were linked to process by a Control Judge, after the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) presented corresponding evidence of their probable responsibility for crimes against health, in the modality of drug trafficking, as well as for possession of firearms for exclusive use by the Army.

According to official information, the defendants were identified as Miguel Alexander “N”, Aarón “N”, Ever Eladio “N” and Kevin Orlando “N”, who, according to ministerial investigations, would be part of a criminal cell of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Authorities indicate that Miguel Alexander “N” would be the alleged leader of this criminal group, considered as CJNG members in Cozumel, which reinforces the relevance of the case in terms of public security for the island.

The arrest of the four subjects occurred during a surveillance operation on 33 South Street in the Colonos neighborhood, where security elements detected the now defendants exchanging small bags with green herb with characteristics typical of marijuana. Upon conducting the corresponding inspection, the agents secured various doses of the alleged drug, in addition to a long firearm and a short 9-millimeter caliber weapon, both with loaded magazines and useful cartridges.

After their apprehension, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which compiled the investigation file and requested the initial hearing before a Control Judge. During the proceeding, the FGE presented the elements supporting the probable participation of the accused as CJNG members in Cozumel, which resulted in the order to link them to process.

CJNG Members in Cozumel Linked to Homicides

Authorities also reported that, according to the first lines of investigation, the defendants could be related to at least two homicides that occurred recently in the municipality.

The violent events were recorded on October 28 and December 5 of this year. In the second case, the victim would be the father of the alleged leader of an opposing criminal group, identified as a priority target within the State’s Criminal Atlas, which reinforces the hypothesis of a dispute between rival criminal cells.

Given the seriousness of the imputed crimes and the procedural risk, the Control Judge determined to impose the precautionary measure of justified preventive prison for the four accused, who will remain deprived of liberty for the duration of the judicial process. This resolution seeks to guarantee the appearance of the defendants and avoid any possible interference in the investigation.

The FGE reiterated that it will continue with the investigations to determine responsibilities and establish whether the detainees, identified as CJNG members in Cozumel, have links with other criminal events recorded on the island. Likewise, it emphasized that these actions are part of the comprehensive strategy to combat drug trafficking and criminal groups operating in Quintana Roo.

With this linking to process, state authorities ensure taking a firm step in the fight against criminal structures, while reiterating their commitment to maintain permanent operations to preserve security and public order, in the face of the presence of CJNG members in Cozumel and other criminal groups.
