Former Official in Lili Campos Administration Wins Injunction After Dancer’s Death

Legal documents related to the injunction case

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A former official from the administration of Mayor Lili Campos has obtained a federal injunction against prosecution for injuries related to a 2023 accident where a dancer was crushed by a collapsing stage screen, an incident that ultimately proved fatal.

José Luis Argüelles González, the former director of the Spectacles Unit for the Solidaridad municipality during Campos’ term, secured the injunction from the Third District Court. The ruling, published March 10, 2026, under case number 1002/2025, orders a review of his prosecution.

The case stems from an accident during municipal anniversary celebrations on July 28, 2023, when authorities installed large screens despite strong winds. One screen collapsed, injuring several people including traditional dancer Noé González, who suffered spinal cord damage.

The State Prosecutor’s Office arrested Argüelles González two years later, after Campos’ administration ended, accusing him of overseeing event logistics. A judge ordered him released on bail after linking him to the process.

The dancer’s wife, Arcelia Galván Ronzón, confirmed her husband spent three years bedridden before complications led to his death. She criticized authorities for what she called revictimization of the family and lack of justice in the case.
