Tulum, Mexico — A former employee has publicly accused the Super Aki Tulum 2 supermarket of systematic labor exploitation, abuse of power, and forcing workers to cover inventory losses, sparking calls for official intervention.
The allegations, shared on social media by a recently resigned worker, describe a hostile work environment at the store on Coba Avenue. The accuser claims management subjects operational staff to mistreatment, with female employees facing particular vulnerability due to disrespectful behavior and abusive power dynamics, compounded by a lack of internal protection channels.
According to the complaint, some checkout supervisors allegedly enable these practices instead of supporting employees. One of the most serious accusations involves holding workers financially responsible for missing merchandise, forcing them to pay for lost products while certain managers engage in opaque inventory handling that harms employees’ financial well-being.
The former employee urged the community and job seekers to exercise caution and prioritize personal dignity before joining the workplace. They stated the goal of sharing this information is to prevent others from becoming victims of poor working conditions and to ensure respect for human rights in the region’s commercial spaces.
The supermarket chain has not yet issued an official statement to deny or clarify the social media allegations. Meanwhile, local citizens and organizations have called on labor authorities to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with current labor regulations to protect the integrity of those still working at the branch.
