Tulum, Mexico — A foreign tourist staying at a hotel in the La Veleta neighborhood suffered respiratory insufficiency, allegedly caused by the mixture of medication and alcohol, prompting the mobilization of emergency services.

According to the tourist's companion, the visitor had consumed a medication prescribed by a doctor for a foot fracture. The woman reported that upon exiting the bathroom, she found him in critical condition and immediately requested support from the hotel staff.

Employees at the location stated that an assessment was requested from a private physician, who indicated that an excess of medication combined with alcoholic beverages may have triggered the complication.

Personnel from Civil Protection and paramedics from a private company provided pre-hospital care to the affected individual and subsequently transported him to a private hospital in the city.

No information has been released at this time regarding the evolution of his health status.
