Tulum, Quintana Roo — A foreign tourist has reported being robbed at knifepoint inside the jungle accommodation where she was staying in Tulum, with the assailant making off with jewelry, electronics, and personal documents.
Megg Stukey, the victim, said the incident occurred at night when a man entered the property while she was present and threatened her with a knife before taking her belongings. The robber stole her cell phone, a bag containing her wallet and passport, jewelry, and a laptop.
Stukey described the experience as “horrible” and said she was emotionally affected, though she suffered no physical injuries. During the incident, her phone fell to the ground as the assailant fled, allowing authorities to recover it later. Police also recovered her passport, but the laptop and jewelry remained missing at the time of reporting.
Among the stolen items was a necklace that belonged to her grandmother, which holds sentimental value. Stukey has asked the public to report any attempts to sell the jewelry in shops or on digital platforms.
The accommodation is located approximately 1.7 kilometers along Kukulcán Avenue from the town center, then west several blocks into a jungle area with low-density housing and private properties.
Authorities have not issued an official statement on the investigation or reported any arrests. The incident adds to recent security concerns in Tulum, particularly in remote lodging areas.
