Playa del Carmen — Armed individuals on motorcycles attacked an auto parts store with gunfire this morning, the second such incident in less than four months. The business is located on Avenida 125 between streets 28 and 26 in the Ejido colony.

The event occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. While no injuries were reported, the facade of the establishment sustained multiple damages.

According to witnesses, the assailants fired repeatedly without stopping, which generated panic among neighbors and pedestrians who were in the area carrying out daily activities.

This was the second attack on this business; the first occurred on May 23.

Municipal Police officers responded to the scene and cordoned off the area after locating spent shell casings on the public roadway. Later, forensic specialists from the State Attorney General's Office carried out the collection of evidence and packaging of the proof.

The police operation caused traffic disruptions, as the north-to-south traffic on Avenida 125 was partially closed, resulting in vehicular congestion.

Although the ministerial authorities have already initiated the corresponding investigation, no arrests related to the attack have been reported at this time.

Unofficially, it has been suggested that the attack could be linked to the extortion practice known as "derecho de piso" (protection racket), which keeps local merchants under constant threat.
