Tizimín, Yucatán — The Yucatán State Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged five people detained during raids on rural properties in Tizimín last Sunday, where authorities previously seized a warehouse containing drugs and weapons.
The suspects, identified by their initials L.O.S., M.E.C.B., D.A.R.D., J.F.M.D., and S.C.D., face charges for drug trafficking involving possession of cannabis and methamphetamine in criminal case 17/2026.
According to official information, the incident occurred on February 7 on a dirt road along the Tizimín–Colonia Yucatán highway. State Investigation Police officers were conducting operations related to a ranch under investigation when they detected the now-accused individuals in the area.
At the time of their arrest, the suspects were inside a parked Toyota pickup truck. Inside the vehicle, officers found drugs distributed in small plastic bags, which were turned over to the Prosecutor’s Office.
During a hearing at the Fifth District Court in Valladolid, prosecutors filed formal charges and requested the suspects be bound over for trial. The accused invoked their constitutional right to have their legal status determined, so the hearing will continue in coming days.
The control judge imposed justified preventive detention as a precautionary measure, meaning all five suspects will remain in custody throughout the criminal proceedings.
The Prosecutor’s Office confirmation strengthens the investigation line initiated after operations in Tizimín’s rural zone and marks judicial progress in a case that continues to examine various properties linked to alleged drug crimes in eastern Yucatán.
