5 Charged in Tulum and Playa del Carmen Drug Busts

TULUM, Mexico — The Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo has reported that, through its Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Drug Dealing, it secured formal charges against five individuals for crimes against public health in separate incidents occurring in Tulum and Playa del Carmen.

Tulum Arrests and Charges

In Tulum, Ismael de Jesús and Cindy Marisol were formally charged for their alleged involvement in crimes related to possession with intent to supply marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Additionally, Francisco was formally charged for possession of cannabis.

The Attorney General's Office also reported the arrest in flagrante delicto of Royer and Carlo Arturo in the Veleta neighborhood, after ministerial and municipal agents caught them exchanging allegedly illicit substances. During an inspection, doses of narcotics were seized from them, and they were subsequently placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Proceedings in Playa del Carmen

Separate hearings were held in Playa del Carmen, resulting in formal charges for Juan Carlos and David. The former faces charges for simple possession of marijuana and cocaine, while the latter for simple possession of cannabis sativa. Both individuals will remain in justified pretrial detention while the judicial process develops.

The Attorney General's Office emphasized that these actions are part of ongoing strategies to combat drug dealing and guarantee security in the tourist municipalities of Quintana Roo.
