Fire Destroys Bus on Highway Between Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Tulum

Firefighters extinguish a bus that was completely destroyed by fire on the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum highway in Quintana Roo.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A private bus carrying more than 40 people was destroyed by fire early Wednesday on Federal Highway 307, according to officials.

The fire broke out around 3 a.m. on the stretch between Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Tulum, near the community of Cecilio Chi. Authorities believe a mechanical failure may have sparked the blaze, which left the vehicle a total loss.

The bus became stranded in the middle of the highway as flames consumed it. Passing motorists saw the incident and alerted emergency services through the 911 line.

About 40 people, believed to be hotel workers, managed to get off the bus together with the driver before the fire spread across the entire vehicle. No injuries or cases of smoke inhalation were reported, and paramedics were not needed at the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, and National Guard officers later arrived to manage traffic and investigate the cause of the incident.
