Cancún, Quintana Roo — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that consumed an abandoned former Playboy casino in Cancún’s Hotel Zone on Sunday afternoon, causing material damage but no injuries.
The fire broke out around 3.5 kilometers along Kukulcán Boulevard in the tourist district. Tourists and residents reported seeing thick smoke billowing from the vacant building, prompting them to call emergency services.
Firefighters, civil protection personnel, and tourist police responded to the scene. Authorities cordoned off the area while crews worked to contain the flames.
After several minutes, firefighters fully controlled the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties. Officials confirmed the fire caused only material damage to the interior of the structure, which had been vacant.
Witnesses said homeless individuals occasionally used the building as shelter, but emergency responders found no one inside when they arrived.
