Federal Raid in Playa del Carmen Leaves Two Detained, Minor Rescued

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A joint operation by federal forces early Saturday morning in the 28 de Julio neighborhood resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the rescue of a minor, authorities said.

Agents from the Federal Ministerial Police, supported by the National Guard and the Mexican Army, executed a search warrant at a home on Avenida de las Naciones and Chunyaxché Street shortly after 6 a.m., according to witnesses.

Officers forced open the front door to enter the property, while military and National Guard personnel established a wide security perimeter with official vehicles to block access during the operation, witnesses said.

A man and a woman were detained and transported in official vehicles to be placed at the disposal of ministerial authorities.

During the search, authorities located a minor, who was handed over to a relative for safekeeping. An 86-year-old woman, reportedly the property owner, was interviewed by agents. Other tenants living at the address were also present during the raid.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has not yet released official information regarding the motive for the search, the crimes under investigation, or whether weapons, drugs, cash, or other evidence were seized.

Neighbors recalled that the same home had been flagged last year after reports of possible gunfire in the area, which led to investigations by authorities.

The large deployment of military vehicles, federal patrols, and heavily armed personnel drew attention from residents, who watched as the operation unfolded over several hours.
