Cancún, Quintana Roo — A passenger died and the driver was hospitalized after a car crashed into a concrete wall on the Cancún-Mérida highway Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which partially left the roadway before violently striking a concrete retaining wall, authorities reported.

Witnesses alerted emergency services after seeing the crash. Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the passenger had no vital signs due to severe injuries.

Emergency personnel treated the driver at the site before transporting them to a hospital for medical attention. Officials have not yet provided an update on the driver’s condition.
