First responders and onlookers near a damaged vehicle at a traffic accident scene in a rural area.

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A deadly collision on Federal Highway 307, at kilometer 237 between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, resulted in one fatality and three injuries after a vehicle abruptly entered the roadway from an unpaved access road.

Details of the Collision

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a Dodge Attitude, believed to be a rental vehicle, exited a dirt road without proper caution and encroached into the lane of oncoming traffic. A taxi belonging to the Tiburones del Caribe union, with fleet number 1288, struck the Attitude head-on as it traveled northbound.

The impact was severe, killing the driver of the Attitude at the scene. Witnesses suggested the victim may have been a foreign national, though authorities have not yet confirmed the identity. The taxi sustained significant damage, and its occupants suffered serious injuries.

Emergency Response and Traffic Disruptions

First responders, including personnel from the Heroic Fire Department, Red Cross paramedics, and private medical service Room, arrived promptly. Using specialized equipment, they extricated the injured, stabilized them, and transported them to a private clinic in Playa del Carmen.

The crash forced a partial closure of the highway for over an hour, causing heavy congestion between Dreams Tulum hotel and Casa Cenote. The National Guard was notified, and forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office were expected to conduct an investigation and remove the victim’s body.

Calls for Increased Caution

The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns along this heavily traveled federal highway, where unmarked secondary road exits and reckless driving continue to pose life-threatening risks. Authorities reiterated the importance of exercising extreme caution while driving.

This remains a developing story. Further updates will follow as official details are released.
