Police operation leading to arrest of extortion suspect in Mérida

Cancún — The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office announced that, in collaboration with the Yucatán State Attorney General’s Office, Juan Pablo “N” was arrested in the city of Mérida under an apprehension order issued by a control judge. The arrest resulted from investigative work into his probable involvement in acts possibly constituting the crime of extortion against a person whose identity is reserved.

Initial investigations established that between May 14 and May 20, 2025, the accused employed various pressure mechanisms, threats, and financial demands against the victim. He obtained transfers of varying amounts of money under the warning that he would disseminate personal and family information if the victim did not comply with the demanded payments, which ranged from three thousand to twelve thousand pesos.

In response to these events, the Public Prosecutor’s Office compiled the corresponding evidence and requested and obtained the respective apprehension order from the judicial authority.

As a result of intelligence work, with inter-institutional support, the suspect was located and detained at a residence in the Juan Pablo II neighborhood of Mérida, Yucatán.

Following his arrest, Juan Pablo “N” was transferred to the municipality of Benito Juárez by investigation police attached to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes. After completing the corresponding procedures, he was placed at the disposal of the judicial authority that requested him.
