Estefanía Mercado’s Bold Move to Support Single Working Moms

Municipal president Estefanía Mercado has announced that, by 2025, the City Council will introduce social programs specifically designed to support working single mothers. These initiatives will be coordinated in partnership with state and federal government policies. Mercado emphasized the importance of teaming up with Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and governor Mara Lezama Espinosa to improve the lives of families in Solidaridad.

Mercado noted that there are 111,000 family matrons in Solidaridad. As such, her administration plans to bolster existing Federation and State support initiatives with the introduction of city-specific social programs. "Women are the cornerstone of a prosperous and equitable municipality. Therefore, we will roll out a Comprehensive Municipal Program for Women's Care," she stated.

The Solidaridad government's commitment to supporting single working mothers will be demonstrated through free daycare services. Mercado also revealed plans to enhance these programs with the "Playa filled, happy heart" initiative. This project aims to meet the nutritional requirements of vulnerable families in Playa del Carmen and the mayoralty of Puerto Aventuras.

In addition to these initiatives, the Women's Institute of Solidaridad will offer programs and workshops focusing on labor and craft skills, as well as providing psychological support and guidance on issues related to gender violence. Bárbara Delgado Uc, director of the institution, stated, "We will continue to provide free legal and psychological services, as well as a variety of workshops aimed at economic and academic empowerment. These will help women complete elementary, middle, and high school education, and even attain a degree."

Uc encouraged women to take advantage of the free training offered by the institution.
