Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Municipal President Estefanía Mercado has identified improving public transportation as the next critical challenge for Playa del Carmen’s local government, following progress in safety and health initiatives. Mercado emphasized the need to transform the city into a national model for high-quality public transit.
A Priority for the Community
The councilor confirmed that a comprehensive evaluation is underway to determine the best strategies for achieving this goal. Once completed, the administration will outline specific actions to enhance the transportation system.
"We are tackling multiple issues simultaneously, but the most pressing challenge we face today in Playa del Carmen is ensuring decent public transportation," Mercado stated.
Recognition and Aspirations
Mercado highlighted that a recent poll ranked Playa del Carmen as the third-best municipality in Mexico for public services. "This shows we are on the right track. Now, we aim for first place," she added.
The mayor outlined the necessity of implementing measures to make public transportation affordable, efficient, and accessible to all residents, particularly daily commuters.
"I am confident we will deliver significant improvements for our community, especially for workers who rely on public transit every day," Mercado emphasized.
Collaborative Efforts
Mercado confirmed the support of Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama, who recognizes the importance of the initiative. The mayor stressed the need for coordinated efforts between local and state authorities to achieve this objective.
