Two emaciated dogs found abandoned inside a residence in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo

Playa del Carmen,Quintana Roo — Two dogs were found in an apparent state of abandonment inside a residence on Tihosuco Street in the Cataluña neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, with neighbors reporting the animals are visibly malnourished and in critical condition.

According to citizen reports, the dogs remain inside the property without consistent human care. Images and testimonies indicate the animals are “skin and bones,” raising alarm among local residents.

Authorities alerted Mariana Rubio Arrevillaga, coordinator of Playa del Carmen’s Animal Control, Assistance and Zoonosis Center (CENCAAZ), to follow established protocols for the case.

The whereabouts of the property owners remain unknown, as do the reasons for the dogs’ condition. It has not been determined whether this constitutes animal abuse, abandonment, or an extraordinary circumstance.

Neighbors have called on authorities to verify the animals’ health status and ensure their protection and welfare while the situation is investigated.
