Limones, Mexico — State prosecutors arrested eight people during 15 simultaneous raids in the community of Limones in Bacalar municipality, authorities announced Monday.

Among those detained is Heydi Esmeralda “N,” a relative of Jesús “N,” alias “Pelusa,” who was killed by Mexican Navy personnel during a confrontation on February 2.

The State Prosecutor’s Office detained four women and four men identified as Heydi Esmeralda “N,” Beatriz “N,” Elvira Judith “N,” Zeili Mariela “N,” Jesús Emmanuel “N,” René “N,” Cristian Jafed “N,” and Santos Eduardo “N.” The last suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in aggravated assault.

Preliminary investigations indicate Heydi Esmeralda “N” allegedly used WhatsApp to incite residents to block the Limones-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway and burn vehicles.

During the raids, authorities seized suspected narcotics, five vehicles including one armored car, and three motorcycles.

After executing the search warrants, agents placed seizure seals on 14 of the 15 properties searched, which remain under the State Prosecutor’s Office’s custody.

The detained individuals were handed over to a judge who will determine their legal status.

The arrests follow three highway blockades by residents of Limones along the Limones-Felipe Carrillo Puerto route. The latest blockade occurred around noon on Sunday, and police remain at the scene as authorities work to reopen the highway.
