Driver Hospitalized After Rollover Crash on Cancún’s Tulum Avenue

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A driver was hospitalized Thursday morning after losing control of his vehicle and rolling it over at a busy Cancún intersection, apparently due to excessive speed while turning.

The accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of Tulum and Sayil avenues in front of supermanzana 20. Motorists called 911 to report a gray car had overturned with a person trapped inside.

Emergency dispatchers activated rescue protocols, sending firefighters, Red Cross paramedics, and municipal traffic officers to the scene.

At the site, responders found a gray Volkswagen Vento with license plate YYS-072-H, driven by 53-year-old Alejandro “N.” Paramedics provided first aid and determined he had multiple injuries from the crash. They transported him to the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) hospital on Cobá Avenue.

Traffic officers interviewed the driver before his hospital transfer. He stated he was traveling on Sayil Avenue from the bullring toward Labná Avenue when he attempted to merge onto Tulum Avenue by making a left turn. He apparently took the turn at excessive speed, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The car then overturned and came to rest on the sidewalk.

The damaged vehicle was towed to an impound lot where it will remain while authorities complete their investigation and determine liability for damages.

Authorities indicated that once the driver is treated and discharged from the hospital, he will be turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office pending completion of the forensic investigation.
