Tulum's Municipal President, Diego Castañón Trejo, recently unveiled a comprehensive strategy for peace-building and the initiation of a new security plan titled "Fortifying Tulum".
The program's primary objective is to bolster public confidence in the police force and establish it as a national standard. This will be achieved through three stages, including the addition of 15 new patrol cars, 70 new officers, and 600 video surveillance cameras. The strategy also involves implementing crime prevention policies, quadrant security, and coordination with all levels of government.
During the presentation, Castañón stated, "Today, I want to make it clear that Tulum is not alone and we will not allow crime to continue threatening our peace". He emphasized that the government of Tulum is committed to regaining peace and tranquility, which have been undermined by years of insecurity.
Castañón acknowledged that poverty, lack of opportunities, and neglect are factors that often lead individuals to crime. However, he is optimistic about a new phase where all levels of government will actively participate. He said, "Here, in Tulum, peace is non-negotiable! We have the support of the first female Governor, Mara Lezama, and the first female President of Mexico, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum. They have made it clear that the peace and tranquility of our people are the absolute priority".
He pledged to fortify the tourist haven of Tulum, asserting that an attack on one is an attack on all. He added, "We will fortify not only with more police or more technology, but with unprecedented coordination among all security forces: the National Guard, the Army, the Navy, the State Police, the Prosecutor's Office, and of course, our Municipal Police. Government, society, businessmen, civil associations, citizens: all hand in hand to face those who try to sow fear and violence".
Castañón urged citizens to participate in the fight against crime, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and support. He concluded by reiterating the government's unwavering commitment to restoring peace, stating, "In Tulum, the Transformation Advances".
