Diablillas Mestizas de Hondzonot Claim Softball Runner-Up in Nuevo Leon

The Diablillas Mestizas de Hondzonot softball team from Tulum, Quintana Roo

Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Diablillas Mestizas de Hondzonot returned from Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, with the runner-up trophy in a national softball quadrangular tournament, after a strong performance against top-level teams. The Quintana Roo representative won its first game convincingly and came within one out of the championship in a dramatic final inning.

Manager Manuel Jimenez said the team opened with a decisive 10-2 victory over Las Diablas. Although the game started evenly, the Diablillas capitalized on offensive opportunities to extend their lead and secure a win that boosted their confidence heading into the final.

In the title match, they faced Las Aguilas, a team of highly experienced players including members of the Molina family, some with national team and professional backgrounds. Despite the experience gap, the Hondzonot representatives held the lead for most of the game and entered the final inning with victory seemingly in hand. However, with one out to go, Las Aguilas rallied for two runs to win 6-5.

Jimenez stressed that the final result did not overshadow the Diablillas’ performance, as they showed character, discipline, and a high competitive level against some of the tournament’s strongest opponents. He added that the team received a runner-up trophy and recognition from the crowd, which applauded their intensity and effort throughout the games.

Beyond the competition, the Quintana Roo delegation visited the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame during their stay in Nuevo Leon, where they received a special tour. The hall also shared images and a welcome message on its official platforms, a gesture Jimenez called a recognition of the team’s effort. He said such experiences strengthen the players’ development and help showcase the talent of Hondzonot and Quintana Roo in national competitions.
