Cancún. Cozumel is betting on a clear promotion strategy during the International Tourism Fair, Fitur. The objective is to position the island as a destination free of sargassum at any time of the year.
This advantage places Cozumel as one of the main options in the Mexican Caribbean. Additionally, the destination offers a wide range of history, culture, and gastronomy.
According to hoteliers and tourism authorities, the promotion focuses on this natural distinction. During negotiations with wholesalers and agencies, the absence of sargassum on its beaches is highlighted.
The authorities explained that the island’s location and ocean currents prevent the arrival of the macroalgae. Therefore, the beaches remain clean throughout the year.
The president of the Cozumel Hotel Association, Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba, stated that the promotion also prioritizes experiences. However, she emphasized that the island has an additional advantage.
She highlighted that Cozumel is a safe and sargassum-free destination. This characteristic generates confidence among tourists and operators in the sector.
As proof of this strategy, she recalled the results of the past summer season. During that period, overnight tourism increased by 10 percent.
This growth was achieved by capturing travelers who canceled trips to destinations affected by sargassum. Many of them chose Cozumel as an alternative.
Given this scenario, the hotel leader affirmed that making this advantage visible is key. The strategy seeks to prevent tourists from changing their plans during the sargassum influx season.
The promotion also reinforces Cozumel as a solid option within the Mexican Caribbean. The island combines clean beaches with history, culture, and gastronomy.
With these actions, Cozumel aims to consolidate itself as a reliable and competitive destination. The goal is to maintain tourist flow throughout the year.
