Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) will hold a shorebird watching session on Sept. 5 at the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park, part of activities marking World Migratory Shorebird Day, observed each Sept. 6.
The event starts at 6:30 a.m. and is open to people of all ages, whether they have birding experience or not. Participants will explore the park’s beaches, dunes, and lagoon areas to spot resident and migratory species that use these habitats for feeding, resting, and shelter.
Punta Sur director Jesús Benavides Andrade said the outing aims to connect the community with the island’s bird diversity and raise awareness about the importance of conserving wetlands, beaches, and other coastal ecosystems that support these species.
The tour will be led by biologist Héctor González Cortés and natural resources manager Paulina Sabido Villanueva, who will explain the characteristics of the birds identified and the ecosystems found in the park.
The activity is free, but space is limited. Interested participants must register in advance by emailing [email protected].
