Cozumel, Quintana Roo — As 2025 concludes, the Island Museum of Cozumel reaffirms its role as the institution safeguarding the municipality’s biocultural heritage and as a meeting point for artistic expressions from local, national, and international creators. With an intense cultural agenda, the museum consolidates itself as a living space where the community gathers around the art, identity, and history of the island.
The director of the Island Museum, Isela Carrillo Cupul, highlighted that this year the venue maintained a diverse program that strengthened Cozumel’s cultural offerings and opened its doors to artistic manifestations of all genres. “The Island Museum is a space that belongs to the community. In addition to preserving our biocultural heritage, we are a meeting point for creative dialogue and a home for artists seeking to share their work,” she stated.
As part of the 2025 cultural lineup, the museum center presented 24 exhibitions of photography, sculpture, painting, and object art; three musical events, including the recital “De Amor y Desamor” with singer Argelia Chacón Díaz, as part of Valentine’s Day celebrations; and a warm tribute to guitarist Antonio Gallegos Loranca, who announced his retirement from the stage after three decades of career. The participation of the Mariachi Santa Cecilia, a cultural icon of the island, also stood out.
Likewise, two book presentations were held, including the work “Nolo” by writer Patricia Elena Sosa and a tribute to Cozumel writer Victoriano Vivas, as well as a workshop for youth linked to the construction of the State Program for the Promotion and Impulse of Humanities, Sciences, Technologies, and Innovation. With these activities, the Island Museum consolidates itself as a cultural reference in the municipality and throughout the state.
Finally, the general director of the FPMC, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, emphasized that this work is framed within the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, which promotes the creation of inclusive, educational, and accessible spaces to strengthen the social fabric, noting that “the Island Museum is an example of the collective commitment to build a better future, where culture and knowledge are within reach of everyone.”
