Cozumel, Mexico — The island of Cozumel is preparing to host one of its most significant spiritual events, Soul K'iin, this weekend. This public representation seeks to educate attendees about one of the most spiritual aspects of ancient Maya culture: the ritual of bidding farewell to the Sun.
The event, which is one of the most anticipated by people seeking spiritual character in the region, is backed by the cultural authorities of the entity. It is part of the ceremonies performed by the Maya in antiquity, where the ancient inhabitants carried out their practices to honor and give thanks for what the sun provided them.
Event Details for Soul K'iin
The act will take place this coming Sunday, October 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Explanada de la Bandera. It will be open to the public, meaning anyone can witness this event.
The local government is inviting people to attend with the phrase, "Because in every sunset, Cozumel continues to tell its story." A further part of the invitation states, "Come feel the energy of the sunset, to live our traditions, and to bid farewell to the Lord Sun as our ancestors did."
The Nature of the Ritual
While several ceremonies for this ritual were conducted in different regions of Mexico, this act brings together one of the visions held by the Maya. The ritual is performed through music, dance, and words that were considered sacred by the inhabitants of this zone. This ceremony was considered mystical for the people of that time.
