Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Hotels on the island of Cozumel reported occupancy rates exceeding 90% during the Carnival and Valentine’s Day weekend, according to data from the Cozumel Hotel Association.
The figures show occupancy reached 89.99% on Friday, February 13, 93.38% on Saturday, February 14, 91.59% on Sunday, 90.26% on Monday, and 89.15% on Tuesday, Carnival Day. The high numbers confirm that both Carnival festivities and Valentine’s Day drove significant tourist arrivals and economic benefits for the island.
Carnival attracted both national and international visitors. The Cozumel–Playa del Carmen federal route played a key role, drawing thousands of tourists who stayed in hotels, dined at restaurants, and shopped at local businesses. A steady flow of visitors arriving by sea further boosted economic activity, extending the impact beyond major tourist resorts.
Some hotels in the town center also reported occupancy above 90%, reflecting balanced economic benefits for both large and small establishments. This pattern confirms that tourist demand during the festivities spread across the island’s entire hotel infrastructure, benefiting various sectors of the local economy.
The maritime route with Playa del Carmen recorded high traffic. Cozumel’s Carnival, recognized as one of the most important in the Mexican Caribbean, combined with Valentine’s Day celebrations, positions the island as an attractive destination for domestic and international visitors. The occupancy figures demonstrate that blending cultural tradition with special dates can serve as an engine for tourism and economic growth.
