Cozumel Carnival 2026: Win Up to 25,000 Pesos in Comparsa Contest

Leona Vicario, Quintana Roo — The comparsa contest for the Cozumel Carnival 2026 will take place in the Leona Vicario delegation on Saturday, February 14 at 5:00 p.m. This initiative is part of efforts to recognize the cultural value of the region, its traditions, and the creativity of its inhabitants.

To register, interested parties must go to the offices of the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Arts of Puerto Morelos, located in the palapa of the main park of the Leona Vicario delegation. Registrations close on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Each comparsa must have a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 people, but for the free category, it is essential to have at least 3 or 4 underage members. The three determining factors in the jury’s decision will be:

  • Choreography and coordination.
  • Charisma and enthusiasm on stage.
  • Originality and costumes.

Categories and Prizes in the Cozumel Carnival 2026 Comparsa Contest

Children’s Category: Open for minors between 6 to 12 years old.

  • First place: 18,000 pesos.
  • Second place: 12,000 pesos.
  • Third place: 10,000 pesos.

Youth Category: Open for young people between 13 to 18 years old.

  • First place: 20,000 pesos.
  • Second place: 15,000 pesos.
  • Third place: 12,000 pesos.

Adult Category: Open for people 18 years and older.

  • First place: 22,000 pesos.
  • Second place: 18,000 pesos.
  • Third place: 15,000 pesos.

Free Category

  • First place: 25,000 pesos.
  • Second place: 18,000 pesos.
  • Third place: 15,000 pesos.

People who participate in this event must be part of the parade.

Music Requirements for the Cozumel Carnival Comparsa Contest

  • 80% of the music must be Caribbean tropical genre; the remaining 20% is free genre.
  • The music must be fully edited in a single folder on a USB drive, labeled with the comparsa’s name and a contact phone number.
  • It must be delivered to the staff of the Institute of Culture from one week before and until the day of the contest.

Presentation Rules and Documents to Participate in the Cozumel Carnival Comparsa Contest

  • The participation time (audio and dance) must be a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes.
  • Exceeding the time limit will result in an automatic penalty of 10 points less in each jury’s final score.
  • Voter ID of participants or their parents.
  • Birth certificates.
  • CURP.
  • Proof of address.
  • Authorization letters for minors.
