CHETUMAL — The state of Quintana Roo registered its 51st COVID-19 infection of 2025, with one case recorded during the week of August 19 to 25. No new deaths were reported, with the total number of fatalities for the year holding steady at eight, according to the latest report from the federal Secretary of Health (Ssa). The state Secretary of Health (Sesa) has ceased publishing its updated weekly report on the situation of the disease.
With the data from the Ssa report, current as of August 25, the total number of accumulated infections since 2020 has reached 124,610 cases. The total accumulated deaths from the disease remains at 4,508.
The federal registry reports that 51 infections have been registered in 2025 up to epidemiological week 34 of the year, alongside eight recorded fatalities.
Nationally, 6,104 people have been infected, while 195 deaths have been registered so far this year, with a higher incidence among older adults and women.
For the time being, because the Sesa has stopped providing information without explanation, the average hospital occupancy rates for the northern and southern zones in August are unknown. It is also unknown how many of the new infections reported in just over a month are active and under monitoring.
It is worth recalling that, before it stopped issuing the weekly COVID-19 report, the Sesa reported that the progress of vaccination stands at 3,658,148 vaccines administered from January 2021 to the present. No new doses were added to the records in the most recent week, as although the seasonal vaccination campaign was underway, its data had not yet been added to the registry.
According to the last information provided by the SESA in March, 218,317 vaccines have been administered in Cozumel; 161,810 in Felipe Carrillo Puerto; 42,844 in Isla Mujeres; and 496,306 in Othón P. Blanco, while in Benito Juárez, 1,759,900 have been administered.
Furthermore, 80,319 vaccines have been administered in José María Morelos; 59,108 in Lázaro Cárdenas; 630,150 in Solidaridad; 90,528 in Tulum; 66,300 in Bacalar; and 52,566 in Puerto Morelos.
For now, the total number of recovered persons is unknown and can only be estimated to be just over 120,060. The number of suspected cases under investigation is also unknown.
