Cancún, Quintana Roo — A lone gunman opened fire on a taqueria in Cancún on Monday night, wounding a man and a woman who are believed to have been customers. The attack, which authorities suspect may be linked to extortion targeting the business owners, occurred in the busy "El Crucero" area near Supermanzana 66.
Shooting During Dinner Service
The assailant arrived at the taqueria while employees were working and several people were eating dinner, including the victims. Without aiming at a specific target, the individual stood a considerable distance away and fired the weapon repeatedly before fleeing on foot through the streets of the neighborhood.
The female victim sustained a gunshot wound to the foot, while the male victim was shot in the arm. Emergency services responded to the call for help and provided assistance at the scene.
Suspect Reportedly Observed Police Response
According to witness accounts relayed to authorities, the alleged gunman remained in the vicinity following the shooting. A witness stated that the responsible individual was positioned just meters away, observing the movements of police officers and paramedics as they attended to the victims.
The police operation subsequently focused on the nearby Supermanzana 64, where the suspect was allegedly located. Unconfirmed reports indicate that two individuals were detained, but this information has not been officially verified by authorities.
The wounded couple was transported to a local hospital, where their condition was reported as stable. The investigation into the motive and circumstances of the attack continues.
