Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Correos de Mexico opened a new post office Tuesday afternoon inside the Maya Train station in Playa del Carmen, marking the start of a partnership between the postal service and the train operator to bring mail services closer to residents and travelers.
The initiative continues Wednesday with the inauguration of another office at the Maya Train station in Tulum.
The Playa del Carmen ceremony took place without Violeta Abreu Gonzalez, the national director of the Mexican Postal Service, who was delayed by a flight issue. Officials expect her to attend the Tulum opening.
New Office Serves Western Playa del Carmen
Alejandro Nunez Ramirez, state postal manager for Quintana Roo, said the new office will allow residents of western Playa del Carmen to access postal services without traveling to the city center.
“A large part of the population lives on this side, so it will be a great catalyst,” he said.
Nunez noted that Playa del Carmen is now the second most important postal office in the state after Cancun, due to its size and the diversity of its population, which includes people from various parts of the country.
Package Demand Grows in Playa del Carmen
Nunez said the Playa del Carmen office handles significant mail volume, especially parcels, driven by the city’s population and commercial growth.
“There is a large flow of correspondence and especially packages,” he explained.
He added that the postal service maintains extensive delivery operations in the city, serving companies and organizations such as Telmex, Banamex, and various corporations.
Tulum Office Already Operating
Regarding the new office at the Tulum Maya Train station, Nunez said that although the formal inauguration is Wednesday, the space has been operating for a week.
According to the official, public response has been positive, confirming the need to expand Correos de Mexico’s presence in growing tourist and population destinations.
With these new offices, Correos de Mexico aims to strengthen its coverage in Quintana Roo and leverage the connectivity provided by the Maya Train to bring postal services to more users.
