Cancún, Quintana Roo — Mexico’s employers’ federation Coparmex has called for judicial decisions on cultural heritage to avoid harming employment and investment in Quintana Roo, following a Supreme Court ruling.
The statement comes amid litigation involving Grupo Xcaret, whose operations the group says are crucial for economic development and generating thousands of jobs in the state.
Coparmex acknowledged the role of the judiciary but warned that preliminary decisions can create uncertainty. It insisted on the need for legal certainty to protect strategic sectors like tourism.
The organization highlighted that Xcaret projected more than 17,000 direct jobs in 2025 and impacted over 65,000 supplier families, making it a key player in the regional economy.
Coparmex emphasized that protecting cultural heritage, particularly that of the Maya people, should not conflict with investment. It said Mexico can balance cultural preservation with economic development.
The group called for strengthening institutional dialogue and preventing legal disputes from affecting workers. It reiterated that the country should not have to choose between its history and its growth, but advance with both.
