Jean Succar Kuri, a businessman found guilty of child pornography and corruption of minors, is reportedly in serious condition at the "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" General Hospital in Cancún. The 79-year-old prisoner was transferred from the city's Social Rehabilitation Center (Cereso) to the hospital due to a reported "decompensation."
Upon examination, doctors discovered that Kuri is suffering from malnutrition. Given his advanced age, this condition could potentially be life-threatening. Notably, this hospitalization comes just before a hearing to request house arrest for Kuri, citing health reasons.
Edith Encalada, one of Kuri's many victims, has publicly criticized the businessman's defense team. She claims they expedited a court order to reinstate the hearing after it was initially dismissed. The defense is allegedly attempting to take advantage of the new penal system, despite Kuri's case originating from the traditional one.
Kuri, the former owner of the Solymar hotel, was accused of operating a child prostitution ring, allegedly in collaboration with the so-called "king of denim," Kamel Nacif Borge, who is currently detained in Lebanon. In 2011, Kuri was sentenced to 112 years in prison.
